WasteBasedGlazed Brick Slips

On October 13th, 2022, FreshFood Café Anne&Max opened the doors of its first Flagship Store in The Netherlands. Their new location in the city of Haarlem is the largest, most sustainable and smartest Anne&Max branch to date.

StoneCycling collaborated with the designers of Studio JAAF on a custom made WasteBasedGlazed product for the interior walls of the café, upcycling 416 m² of waste materials.

The sustainable design and the new facilities must contribute to the entire, planet-friendly Anne&Max experience.

Dream Bar.

With 357 m², the new location of this Anne&Max café is twice as large as its old location in Haarlem. The building offers space for coffee training for barista, reading afternoons, events, meetings, film evenings and even a stage for artists.

The new location also features a so-called ‘dream bar’: a bar that has been specially designed to support employees as efficiently as possible in serving guests, while still making beautiful and traditional products. It makes use of smart technology such as a dishwasher robot, a self-service kiosk for coffee to go and a sales cabinet, as well as QR-codes for the guests to see the menu.

The flagship location in Haarlem serves as an example for future branches. It has been specially designed to give guests a carefree moment of happiness, from breakfast to evening drinks and with an eye on the challenges of the future.

Responsibility.

Founder of Anne&Max, Wobbe van Zoelen, believes it is the brand’s responsibility to entice guests to make the best choices.

That is why they not only opt for a nutritious and sustainable range of products (80% of their consumables is organic and 70% of their menu is vegetarian), but also made their latest Anne&Max location the most sustainable to date in terms of design.

Furniture from the old location has been reused and sustainable building materials have been used. The back wall of the café consists of StoneCycling’s WasteBasedSlips® with a custom made sustainable glazing, developed in partnership with glazing expert Daria Biryukova of Studio Mixtura.

Anne&Max

Wobbe Van Zoelen came up with the Anne&Max concept after listening to a lecture by Dutch astronaut Wubbo Ockels. He told a story about the insignificance and fragility of the world.

This particularly appealed to Van Zoelen and ensured that he started a breakfast and lunchroom concept that is based on health and sustainability.

Studio JAAF.

Studio JAAF is a design studio based in Amsterdam creating environments through spatial design that connects people and makes places. They not only focus on improving the use of space, but also improving the sense of well-being the user experiences in a space, by stimulating interaction between user and space, and interaction among users.

Collaboration between disciplines allows Studio JAAF to work on projects varying in size and kinds and achieve more.

By only working with suppliers with the same values, Anne&Max wants to ensure that everything that tastes good also feels good. I can't wait to continue building my Anne&Max dream with this new location: to grow into an (inter)national chain of living rooms that are driven by openness, honesty, involvement, care and respect.
