Eye-Catching Sustainable Ace & Tate Store Barcelona

Sustainability + Design

Crack open the cava, the second store of Amsterdam-based eyewear brand Ace & Tate in Spain just opened – and StoneCycling was part of this creative project!

The store’s concept is inspired by the 1888 World’s Fair, hosted in Barcelona.

To pay homage to the fair’s innovative spirit and with a talent to make unexpected materials look sleek and modern, Ace & Tate partnered with StoneCycling to use the WasteBasedBricks® Nougat Sliced and Orange Sliced in the interior.

Journey to a Circular World

Ace & Tate started their journey as a small brand with the aim of providing quality eyewear at a fair price while being good to the people who work with them.

To build a trusting relationship with their community, they make sure suppliers conduct business in an ethical, legal and socially responsible manner and maintain a supply chain free from child labour.

To uphold their high standards and closely held values, Ace & Tate thoroughly assess each potential supplier by visiting the supplier’s head offices and factories and meeting everyone involved in production.

The supplier must then provide valid audit certification that meets their ethical and environmental standards, which they also investigate with their own third-party auditors. Only after careful investigation and consideration will Ace & Tate commence a partnership.

Sliced Finish

The Sliced finish has proven to be popular in interior wall cladding and flooring. It also offers a great opportunity to tell the story of a brick made from waste in a visual way.

After composing and mixing the recipe for this product, the material goes into the production line. Here, it’s pressed into moulds and then released again.

First, we let the bricks dry before they go into the kiln to bake. Then, a layer of the brick is sliced off, so the inside becomes visible. Now you can clearly see what the product is actually made of!

Creativity

Illustrator José Antonio Roda created an amazing mural with neon details for the store. The idea behind it is all about being inclusive and accepting.

“I wanted to create something fun, immediate, bold and geometric that represents the brand spirit, the vibe of the city and also showcases new perspectives”, according to the artist himself.

While our contribution to this project was only small, we believe that it takes these important steps in between to make big leaps in the journey to a more circular world. And whenever we can combine sustainability with creativity, we’re all in, so we’re definitely proud of this partnership.

We thoroughly assess each potential supplier by visiting the supplier’s head offices and factories and meeting everyone involved in production.
