Colourful Collaboration
Studio Mixtura was founded in 2015 by Daria Biryukova due to a fascination with experimenting with waste and secondary raw materials. Daria is the expert in ceramic glazing techniques and is always searching for smart, sustainable and beautiful solutions for everyday life.
Her glazes have been exhibited at several design expos, including Dutch Design Week, the Tallinn Design Festival and Il Salone Del Mobile Milan.
Together with Studio Mixtura, we developed a new range of glazes from waste that can be applied as a facade and interior wall cladding.
Glazed Bricks at Dutch Design Week
During research and development, we also worked together with ABO Global. We used metallurgical by-products that usually have very limited reuse. Did you know that millions of tons of this material are released every year worldwide?!
To move from our current linear economy to a circular economy, we find it essential to show that waste is a fully-fledged raw material of the future, both technically and aesthetically. The WasteBasedGlazedBrick project does just this by finding extra value for these types of waste streams.
Quarrying is a destructive industry to the environment and has a direct impact on the landscape by leaving tons of waste material, which are not used. We aim to find aesthetically colourful applications for these types of waste streams, as well as by using waste from local ceramic manufacturers.
Contributing to a significant increase in the amount of waste we use in each brick, this aligns perfectly with our mission to work towards creating beautiful building materials made from 100% waste.

Meet the WasteBasedGlazedBricks
At the Dutch Design Week, we presented the results: six vibrant WasteBasedGlazedBricks. Many of you have stopped by to see our new surface designs up and close. The responses have been incredible and currently, we’re performing tests to check the viability of large-scale production.
